Wonderfully Made Woman celebrates International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is an annual celebration that honours all women's accomplishments while also promoting positive change by raising awareness of issues that women confront in their daily lives. This year's International Women's Day theme is #BreakTheBias invites us to envisage a world where men and women are treated equally: A world that is diverse, equal, and inclusive, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination where diversity is cherished and celebrated. It asserts that we can forge women's equality together and that we can all break the bias together.

To commemorate this day, Wonderfully Made Woman hosted an event to honour our women and reflect on our success. Mrs Diane Hawkins, DL JP, the Queen's High Sheriff, was present to support us on our journey thus far, recognise our efforts to help overcome the stigma, and celebrate our successes as Wonderfully Made Women.

In her opening remarks, she said, “I know you at wonderfully made woman are doing everything you can to break the bias, and I am really full of awe for everything you have already done. You have already have fought huge battles just to get here, and yet you are still helping each other.”

Julie Boma, the representative of Mama Health and Poverty, Kemi Osikoya, Queen of Alagbawi Kingdom, University of Salford students on placement, and our distinguished service users were among the guests who joined us to celebrate. It was lovely seeing everyone, and we all had a wonderful time honouring each other.

Wonderfully Made Woman understands that we must all take action and be aware of the tremendous influence that bias - both conscious and unconscious bias - has on women's equality. We must recognise it and call it out. We must overcome the bias.
