Empowering Voices: A Powerful Session on Modern Slavery and Vulnerability

Celebrating 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Wonderfully Made Woman proudly hosted an engaging and enlightening session at our London Hub. This annual international campaign, which begins on November 25th, provided the perfect backdrop for our event focused on a critical and often overlooked issue: Modern Slavery and Vulnerability.

A Deep Dive into Modern Slavery

The session was expertly facilitated by Ekanem, representing Africans Unite Against Child Abuse (AFRUCA). Ekanem's insightful and comprehensive approach made the complex topic of modern slavery accessible and relatable to all attendees. The discussion delved into the nuances of modern slavery, equipping participants with the knowledge to recognise its signs and understand its pervasive nature in our local communities.

Empowerment Through Awareness

One of the session's core objectives was to empower women to become vocal advocates against modern slavery. The interactive nature of the discussion sparked thought-provoking conversations, encouraging attendees to share their perspectives and experiences. This approach fostered a sense of community and solidarity, enabling each participant to feel more confident in raising awareness about this critical issue.

Networking and Bonding Over Lunch

The event was about more than just learning and discussion. It also provided a wonderful opportunity for networking and bonding. Over lunch, the women shared their stories, experiences, and aspirations, creating new connections and strengthening existing ones. This aspect of the event underscored the importance of community and support in tackling challenging issues like modern slavery.

  • Gratitude and Acknowledgement

  • We extend our hearfelt thanks to The UK BME Anti-Slavery Network for their generous funding and support, making this session not just possible but also a resounding success. Their commitment to tackling modern slavery and supporting initiatives like ours is invaluable.

A Day of Enlightenment and Unity

The session concluded with a sense of achievement and enlightenment. The women left not just with a deeper understanding of modern slavery and vulnerability but also with a renewed sense of purpose and community. This event was a testament to the power of education, discussion, and unity in combating societal issues.
